Green Sugira Launches New Eco-Literacy Program

We are thrilled to announce the start of our new educational series aimed at primary schools in Kinyinya, teaching children the importance of biodiversity and environmental stewardship from a young age.

In an effort to cultivate the next generation of environmental guardians, Green Sugira has officially launched its comprehensive Eco-Literacy Program. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring that children not only understand the concepts of ecology but also feel empowered to act upon them.

Why Eco-Literacy Matters

Rwanda's rapid development brings with it the challenge of balancing urbanization with nature conservation. By integrating eco-literacy into the primary school curriculum, we are providing students with the tools they need to understand local ecosystems, identify native plant species, and recognize the impact of human activity on the environment.

The program includes weekly workshops, hands-on gardening sessions, and "Nature Walks" where students explore local biodiversity hotspots. Early feedback from teachers suggests that students are already showing increased enthusiasm for outdoor activities and a greater respect for school grounds.

Program Goals

  • Educate 500+ students in the Kinyinya sector by the end of 2024
  • Establish 5 new school gardens aimed at permaculture demonstration
  • Create a student-led "Green Club" in each participating school
